Shopping for insurance or trying to analyze different insurance
proposals? If so, to follow is a list of questions you should
DEFINITELY ask your agent when discussing your property & casualty
insurance policy. To a knowledgeable agent, these questions can be
easily explained or answered.
1. What is the A.M.
BEST RATING of the company I am currently insured through? (This is
the financial rating giving by A.M. Best Company, an independent
Analyst of insurance companies.)
2. Is the company I am
insured through an ADMITTED CARRIER in my state? (This means your
company falls under the jurisdiction of the Insurance Department,
which protects the consumer. If you are currently paying additional
taxes and fees in addition to your total premium, you are probably
with a non-admitted carrier.)
3. Does my insurance
agent have a GOOD REPUTATION with other pawnbrokers and is he/she
knowledgeable in this class of business?
4. Does my policy
include THEFT (i.e. burglary & robbery) coverage? What are the theft
limitations for jewelry and money?
5. Do I have
REPLACEMENT COST OR ACTUAL CASH VALUE on my building, tenant
improvements & furniture and fixtures?
6. Is my policy written
on a SPECIAL PROPERTY FORM including fire, theft, vandalism and
malicious mischief?
7. Does my policy
include coverage for LOSS OF BUSINESS INCOME and EXTRA EXPENSES?
8. How am I PAID IN THE
EVENT OF A CLAIM on my pledged and unpledged property?
9. Can I add OPTIONAL
COVERAGES to my policy, if needed, such as, EDP (Computers),
registered mail, merchants parcel, or money & securities, etc.?
10. Does my GENERAL
LIABILITY coverage include bodily injury, property damage, product
liability, FIREARMS product liability, personal injury, fire legal
liability and medical payments?
